Video Card for a HTPC
Compared to a gaming machine, we are looking for quality 2D and TV-out performance. This is essential when you are trying to view text on your TV. Unlike monitors, TV’s weren’t designed to produce computer text so depending on the quality of your TV-out and 2D, the text will either be sharp or just a bunch of squiggles.
The ATI Radeon 9200 (B00009KTMA) or GeForce FX 5500 (B0002F8SOS) both provide excellent 2D and TV-out performance and also has 3D acceleration to boot. This means you can play most games on your HTPC no problem. The main consideration you should take in choosing between Nvidia and Ati is if you are using a Linux based OS. At the moment drivers for Nvidia are easier to install and configure so if you don’t want the hassle, go first with an Nvidia card.
