Multimedia PC Memory (RAM)
You’ll want to have at least 512 MB of RAM for a high end multimedia computer. This will insure that you’ll be able to run multiple programs (TV recording, audio/video encoding, DVD playback) without slow down.
Since the Intel motherboard we picked has support for DDR2, pick up 2 sticks of 256 MB for it. Why 2 sticks? Dual channel needs each stick of RAM to be in separate channels to maximize the throughput. For the AMD board pick up 2 sticks of DDR.
Corsair has some of the highest quality memory you can get for your money. They offer solid performance both on stock and overclocked settings. For DDR2 sticks check out Corsair Select DDR2 memory (B0006ODZ0W), which comes in two sticks of 256 MB. For DDR memory Corsair TwinX PC3200 DDR memory (B000234TBG) provides the best bang for you buck and also comes in two sticks of 256 MB.
