Monitor/ screen for a Gaming PC

As the adage goes, bigger is better. Prices for large sized LCDs and CRTs have gone down markedly over the past couple years. The benefits of LCDs should be obvious, lower weight, flicker free and brighter than their CRT counterparts. However they have the disadvantage of ghosting when trying to display fast motion and having the occasional dead pixels. Sizes for LCDs are around 2” larger than similar sized CRTs.

For gaming you’ll want to have at least a 17” LCD or 19” CRT. This will let you run at a higher resolution, producing cleaner lines and more expansive field of view.

We recommend the ViewSonic VP171B-2 17” (B0006ZM4W6) for the LCD monitor. It supports a native resolution of 1280x1026 and 8ms response time. Unlike other LCDs which have around a 20-25 ms reponse time, the 8ms response time eliminates any ghosting.

For CRTs we recommend the ViewSonic G90FB-2 19” (B00006B6WO). It offers resolutions up to 1600x1200 with a .25 mm dot pitch. The perfectly flat screen also reduces glare.
