Memory (RAM) for a Gaming PC

Multitasking is a buzz word that many people say they are doing but few are capable of achieving. However multitasking for the computer is easy as pie. Just load up multiple programs and the computer will run each in parallel. The limit to this is the amount of memory you have. Having more memory will also lead to speedups in your games.

You’ll want to have at least 1 GB of RAM for a high end gaming machine. Since the Intel motherboard we picked has support for DDR2, pick up 2 sticks of 512MB for it. Why 2 sticks? Dual channel needs each stick of RAM to be in separate channels to maximize the throughput. For the AMD board, pick up 2 sticks of DDR. On the low end, if you can’t afford 1 GB, get at least 512 MB.

Corsair has some of the highest quality memory you can get for your money. They offer solid performance both on stock and overclocked settings. For DDR2 sticks check out Corsair TWINX PC5400 DDR2 memory (B0002P0120), which comes in two sticks of 512MB. For DDR memory Corsair Value Select PC3200 DDR memory (B0007OWN9U) provides the best bang for you buck and also comes in two sticks of 512MB.
