Memory (RAM) for a Budget PC
Going back to our analogy between a computer and a human, memory, more commonly called RAM, is our short-term memory. Everything that goes into RAM will be forgotten when the computer is turned off. But while the computer is running, it stores all programs we have open in RAM.
For RAM, as most computer components, more is better. Since RAM is fairly cheap, we recommend at least 256 MB. Although you can manage with 128 MB, you’ll definitely notice a difference if you upgrade.
Different manufacturers of RAM produce different specs, or memory timings. Mainstream brands such as PNY (B000069104) and Kingston (B00006HVT3) provide the best value.
