Computer cases
The most important thing you have to consider when buying computer cases is to make sure that it has a power supply of at least 350W. If you don't have a strong enough power supply, your computer may act "flaky". All other things about computer cases you have to consider are pretty much the looks of your computer case, that is if your friends and family will admire you when they see the cool computer case that you have.
The average price for a basic white computer case would be somewhere around 30 dollars. However if you chip in a few more bucks you can get a cool looking one to boot! The fashion now for computer cases are ones with a clear side that show all the internals of your computer. But that's not all. By putting a cheap blue light Blue Light inside of your case, you can get something that looks like this.
Blue Light costs only around $8, so this is a small additional investment you have to make to get a totally cool looking computer case.
The only restriction on the computer case is that it has to be the same format as your motherboard. Most motherboards are ATX format, so just get an ATX compatible case. There are niche cases such as those for home theater or small factor computers, but those are generally more pricey and require special components.
This is probably one of the best looking computer cases out there right now. It is a bit more expensive than the other cases I have listed, but considering that your computer case is something that you won't have to change for years to come, it is worth putting in an extra 20 dollars now instead of replacing it with a more expensive case later. Adding a Blue Light to this case makes it even better. I haven't change my computer case for 5 years now, except the power supply (I needed more power for new components). So think about this when you choose your computer case. You wont have to change it for at least 3-5 years, therefore it might be worth that extra money you will pay for it.

Cooler Master WaveMaster
All Aluminum Case
On the high end of computer cases are aluminum cases like this Cooler Master WaveMaster. These cases are totally aluminum and feature a pull out motherboard tray that allows you to install a motherboard without being crammed for space within the case. Aluminum cases are much cooler to look at and are also lighter than conventional steel cases.

Small Form Factor Case
If you are looking for a smaller case, there are also small form factor cases that allow you to stick your whole computer into a shoe box size case. This is optimal if you transport your computer around often or if you are squeezed for space.

For home theater PCs, try looking into cases that look like A/V components. These are more pricey and need special motherboards and components but they will definitely look better than a regular computer case in your living room.
